Choosing the right size curtain tie back is simpler than you might think. Here's how to measure so you get a tie back that holds your curtains beautifully without pulling too tight or sitting too loose.
What you'll need
A fabric tape measure and a helper if your curtains are heavy or wide.
Step 1: Gather your curtain
Pull your curtain to the side as if it were tied back — hold it loosely, the way you'd want it to sit day-to-day. Don't pull it too tight; you want a natural, relaxed drape.
Step 2: Measure the bundle
Wrap your tape measure around the gathered curtain at the point where the tie back will sit. Note this measurement — this is the minimum loop length your tie back needs to be.
Step 3: Add a little ease
Add 2–5cm to your measurement to allow for a comfortable fit and a slight bow in the tie back. A tie back that's too snug will pull the curtain flat rather than creating that soft, gathered look.
A note on our sizing
Our leather curtain tie backs are ¾" wide and come in a range of lengths. Importantly, the listed length refers to the leather only — the O rings add approximately 1" on either side, so factor that into your total length when measuring. O rings are available in black, silver/nickel, brass, or antique to match your hardware.
Our tie backs are sold individually, so if you need a pair, order a quantity of 2. And if you need a size that isn't listed, just get in touch — we can make any size to order.
Choose your colour
Our handmade leather curtain tie backs are available in Natural, Black, Brown, Blue, Teal, Yellow, Pink, Red, and Antique Black — each one cut and finished by hand in the UK. If you're unsure which size works best for your curtains, drop us a message at info@blueandbellhome.co.uk and we'll help you find the right fit.
